Biographical Information

Catcher Andrew Knizner was drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 7th round of the 2016 amateur draft out of North Carolina State University. In three seasons at NC State, he never hit below .292

He began his professional career in 2016 with the Johnson City Cardinals of the Appalachian League, where he hit .319 in 53 games, with 6 homers and 52 RBIs. He was named to the league's post-season All-Star team and was a Cardinals organizational All-Star. In 2017, he began the season with the Peoria Chiefs of the Midwest League, then on June 14th was promoted to the Springfield Cardinals of the Texas League. In 95 games between the two teams, he hit .302/.349/.471 with 12 homers and 51 RBIs. He was a mid-season All-Star at Peoria, and once again an organizational All-Star. After the season, he played in the Arizona Fall League and was one of that league's top players, with a .358 batting average in 17 games. In 2018, he spent the bulk of the year at Springfield, before earning a late-season promotion to the AAA Memphis Redbirds. In 94 games, he continued to hit very well, with a line of .313/.368/.430, 7 homers and 45 RBIs. He was selected to play in the 2018 Futures Game.

In 2019, he was a non-roster invitee in spring training with the major league Cardinals. He started the year back at Memphis where he was hitting .286 after 37 games. He made his major league debut with the Cardinals on June 2nd, going 0 for 3 in a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs.

His last name is pronounced KIZZ-ner, and not NIZE-ner or NICE-ner, as would appear to the untrained eye.
