Biographical Information[edit]

In December of 2015, the Seattle Mariners hired Amanda Hopkins as an area scout. She was reckoned to be the first full-time female scout since the 1950s.

Hopkins' beat includes the southwestern states of Arizona, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. She had earlier worked as an intern in the Mariners' scouting department and graduated form Major League Baseball's scouting development program. There, she roomed with Haley Alvarez, who herself became a scouting coordinator with the Oakland Athletics. Her first signing for the Mariners was David Greer, who was selected in the 10th round of the 2016 amateur draft.

Hopkins played softball at Central Washington University. Her father, Ron Hopkins was a long-time major league scout himself. Her brother Ross Hopkins was drafted in 2007, although he never played professionally.
