Biographical Information

Allie Clark was a backup outfielder who played seven seasons in the majors. As a rookie, he played on the New York Yankees in 1947, a team that won the 1947 World Series. In Game 7 of the series with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Allie pinch hit for Hall of Famer Yogi Berra, delivering an RBI single in the 6th inning of a 5-2 Yankee triumph. In his second year, he played for the Cleveland Indians in |1948, hitting .310 in a career best 81 games, and again his team won the World Series. He kicked around the American League until 1953, having belted 32 home runs in 358 games. He later played with the Rochester Red Wings from 1953 to 1957, hitting .306 with 75 home runs and 340 RBI over that span.

Clark missed most of 1943 and all of 1944-1945 while serving his country during World War II. After retirement, he was employed by the Iron Workers Local 373 in his hometown of South Amboy, NJ, dying in a nursing home in nearby Morgan, NJ in 2012, aged 88.
