Information[edit]

Allan Ramirez was drafted by the Philadelphia Phillies in the 23rd round (535th overall) of the 1975 amateur draft. He opted not to sign. Three years later, he was drafted by the Texas Rangers in the 10th round (254th), but still did not sign. One year later, in the 1979 amateur draft, he was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles in the 5th round (123rd). Finally, he signed a contract.

His professional career started in 1979 in the Florida State League. Even though his record in his first season with the Miami Orioles was less that perfect (3-9), his ERA of 2.61 wouldn't show it. He pitched well enough to earn a promotion to AA, where he went 16-8 with a 2.98 ERA in 29 games for the Charlotte O's in 1980. In 1981, Allan Ramirez suffered his first sub-par season. With the Rochester Red Wings, he had a 4.17 ERA in 8 games. Ramirez spent some time in A-ball that year too, going 0-1 with a 2.77 ERA with Miami and 2-1 with a 7.36 ERA with the Hagerstown Suns in the Carolina League.

Ramirez pitched in Rochester again in 1982, going 6-10 with a 4.86 ERA walking 117 in 124 IP against 85 K. But on June 8, 1983 - at the age of 26 - he made his Major League debut with Baltimore. From that date to September 13th, he would pitch fairly well. Even though he walked 30 and struck out only 20, his ERA was a fair 3.47. His defense was also flawless - not a single error in 11 total games. He also pitched in Rochester in 1983, going 4-4 with a 3.90 ERA in 90 IP. The Orioles went on to win the 1983 World Series, but he was not used in the postseason.

Even after an impressive rookie season though, that was the last of Ramirez's professional baseball career.

Ramirez currently resides in Victoria, TX.
