Biographical Information[edit]
Alex Monchak played pro ball from 1937 to 1957, missing the 1943-1945 seasons due to military service and was out of organized baseball in 1947. He was a minor league manager from 1949 to 1961, acting as a player/manager through 1956.
After his playing career ended, Monchak was a scout and farm system instructor for the California Angels from 1962 to 1970. Monchak was a Chicago White Sox coach from 1971 to 1975. He moved on to the Oakland Athletics in 1976 before serving on the Pittsburgh Pirates staff from 1977 to 1984. He later was an Atlanta Braves coach from 1986 to 1988. At all four stops, he worked with manager Chuck Tanner.
