Biographical Information[edit]

Outfielder Alex Call was drafted in the 3rd round of the 2016 amateur draft by the Chicago White Sox out of Ball State University. In his first professional season that year, he hit .308/.394/.445 in 73 games between the Kannapolis Intimidators and the Great Falls Voyagers. However, he slumped badly in 2017, as he hit just .207 in 61 games in a season marred by injuries. He played 38 games for Kannapolis and 10 for the Winston-Salem Dash of the Carolina League that season, the rest coming on a rehabilitation assignment with the AZL White Sox. In 2018, he split his season between Winston-Salem, where he hit .256 in 56 games, and the Birmingham Barons of the AA Southern League. There, his average was .242 in 67 games, giving him an overall batting line of .248/.345/.415 with 28 doubles, 12 homers and 58 RBIs in 123 games.

On December 14, 2018, he was traded straight up to the Cleveland Indians for major league 1B Yonder Alonso. It took a while, but he finally reached the majors with the now re-named Cleveland Guardians on July 11, 2022 as a pinch-hitter for Nolan Jones in an 8-4 win over the White Sox. He lined out then stayed in the game to play right field.
