Biographical Information[edit]
Outfielder Alberto Rodriguez was originally signed by the Toronto Blue Jays organization as an international free agent on July 2, 2017. He debuted with the DSL Blue Jays in 2018 and hit .254/.350/.368 in 61 games. He moved over to the Gulf Coast League for his sophomore season and improved to .301/.364/.422 for the GCL Blue Jays. He did not play in 2020 as the minor leagues were not in operation owing to the coronavirus pandemic, but he did change organizations. On September 1, he was acquired by the Seattle Mariners organization as the player to be named later in the deal which sent Taijuan Walker from Seattle to Toronto, which had been executed five days prior.
He began his first year in the M's chain with the Modesto Nuts of the new Low-A West league (formerly the California League). In 93 games, he hit .295/.383/.484 with 30 doubles, which earned him a late-season promotion to the Everett AquaSox of the High-A West league and his addition to the M's 40-man roster on November 18.
He returned to the AquaSox (whose league regained its previous moniker, the Northwest League) in 2022, but he fell off a bit in his first full season in advanced-A. He slashed .261/.336/.396 in 119 games and struck out 138 times in 472 at bats. He also played 10 games for the Peoria Javelinas of the Arizona Fall League.
On January 17, 2023, Rodriguez was designated for assignment by the M's organization to make room on the 40-man roster for waiver claim J.B. Bukauskas. The Mariners had ended their 21-year playoff drought the previous season, were looking to make it back to postseason play, and couldn't afford to keep as many prospects on its 40-man roster as it had previously. However, he was not claimed by any other organization, and the M's reassigned him to the minor leagues on January 23. He began the 2023 season back in Everett, and his power hitting took a leap forward. He was slashing .306/.390/.586 through July 4 with 28 doubles, 7 triples and 11 home runs in 68 games (268 at bats).
