Biographical Information[edit]
Alberto Cabrera was born in Cuba and moved to Costa Rica in 1996. He starred for years in the Costa Rican league. Obtaining citizenship, he pitched for the Costa Rican national team in the 2010 Central American Games. He beat El Salvador in a shutout then saved the Bronze Medal win over Honduras for Costa Rica's second-best baseball finish in a Central American Games to that point.
He was also with them for the 2013 Central American Games. In the 2017 Central American Games, the veteran went six innings and allowed two runs versus Guatemala (5 H, 5 BB, 2 K) and out was outdueling Paolo Rossil. Bryan Solano relieved him with a 7-2 lead but Costa Rica failed to hold on. He finished the event second on his team with a 3.00 ERA, behind Pablo Barquero.
