Biographical Information

Pitcher Addison "Ad" Brennan is most famous for punching New York Giants manager John McGraw while playing for the Philadelphia Phillies on June 30, 1913. He was fined $100 and suspended for five days for his action, which was prompted by McGraw berating the Phillies' players during a four-run, 7th-inning rally by the Giants that day; Brennan waited after the end of the game to settle accounts with McGraw.

Apart from slugging Hall of Famers, Brennan enjoyed his finest season that year, with a 14-12 record, 2.39 ERA and career bests in games (40), starts (24), innings (207) and strikeouts (94). He leapt to the Federal League in 1914 to decent results, making three final appearances outside of the Fed with two American League teams in 1918.
