Abimael Rosario spent about a decade with the Puerto Rican national team.

Rosario was with Puerto Rico for the 1986 Amateur World Series and when they won Bronze in the 1987 Pan American Games. In the 1988 Baseball World Cup, he was 3 for 10 with two walks, a steal and four runs, backing up at 1B, 3B, LF and DH. He played in the 1988 Olympics, 1989 Intercontinental Cup (Bronze Medal), 1990 Central American and Caribbean Games (Silver Medal) and 1990 Goodwill Games. In the 1990 Baseball World Cup, the 24-year-old was 0 for 3 with a walk and two runs as a backup SS/3B and pinch-runner.

He played for Puerto Rico when they won the Silver Medal in the 1991 Pan American Games. He was 2 for 11 with two walks in the 1992 Olympics, backing up Efrain Garcia at 1B, Roberto Lopez at 2B and Albert Bracero in RF. He helped Puerto Rico win Bronze at the 1993 Central American and Caribbean Games. He hit .313/.333/.313 as the main shortstop for Puerto Rico in the 1994 Baseball World Cup. He also was with Puerto Rico when they won Bronze at the 1995 Pan American Games.
