Biographical Information[edit]
Abel Kiviat was a star runner.
He won Gold in the 1912 Olympics 3,000 meter team race and Silver in the 1,500 meters. He was the first shortstop in the history of the Team USA; in the baseball demonstration at the '12 Olympics, he hit third and went 2 for 4 with two runs while handling two putouts. He tied Ira Courtney and Ira Davenport for the team lead in runs and hits. He later served in the Army in World War I, seeing action in France. After retiring as a runner, he was an official at numerous track meets for over 60 years.
