Biographical Information[edit]
"Abbie Johnson, the brilliant young infielder, late with Augusta (Me.), is doing nicely on second for Louisville." - from Sporting Life's correspondent in London, ON, Sept. 19, 1896
Middle infielder Abbie Johnson played for the 1896 and 1897 Louisville Colonels. In 1897 he was the same age as another young Colonels player, Honus Wagner. Honus, however, hit .338 while Johnson hit .242.
In 1900 he played semi-pro ball in Farnham, Canada. It was reported in 1904 that he broke a collar bone in a collision.
Sporting Life in August 1911 reported that Johnson, the "late manager of the Guelph 1911 team", had joined the umpiring staff of the Class D Canadian League.
