Biographical Information[edit]

Pitcher A.J. Schugel was drafted by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in the 25th round of the 2010 amateur draft. He was signed by scout John Gracio and made his pro debut that summer.

His father Jeff Schugel was a minor league player and a scout.

An effective reliever who had a 1.97 ERA in 32 appearances for the Pittsburgh Pirates in his final campaign, 2017, he was beset by a shoulder injury that hampered his career. He threw just 17 2/3 innings in the minor leagues in 2018 and didn't pitch at all in 2019. He had a 1.03 mark in 28 appearances for the independent Milwaukee Milkmen in 2020, then joined the New York Mets system in 2021, posting a 5.56 ERA in 16 relief appearances at Triple-A. He rejoined Milwaukee for 2022.
