The 2014 International League season was the 128th in the league's history, and ended with the Pawtucket Red Sox beating the Durham Bulls three games-to-two to win the Governors' Cup. At 81-62 in the regular season, the Syracuse Chiefs had the best record in the league and led the North Division, but they lost to their division rivals, the 79-65, second-place Red Sox three games-to-zero in the posteason semifinals. Durham, who led the South Division with a 75-69 record, beat the West Division leaders, the 79-65 Columbus Clippers, three games-to-one in the semifinals. At 65-81, the Charlotte Knights were the worst team in the league.

Jason Bourgeois, Rubén Gotay and Joey Terdoslavich tied for the league lead in games played with 136. Bourgeois also had the most plate appearances (600) and at-bats (551). José Pirela led in runs (87), hits (163) and triples (11). Kevin Pillar led in doubles (39). Dan Johnson led in walks with 86, while Matt Davidson had the most strikeouts at 164. Among batters with 300-plus plate appearances, Steven Souza Jr. led with a .350 batting average, a .432 on-base percentage, a. 590 slugging percentage and a 1.022 OPS.

Anthony Ranaudo led the league in victories (14) and winning percentage (.778) and ERA (2.61) among those with 120-plus innings, while Derek Hankins tied Adam Wilk for the lead in losses (14).Chien-Ming Wang led in starts (28), innings pitched (172 2/3) and hits allowed (200).
