History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2009 Nationals started the season 13-34. Amazingly, Shairon Martis had gone 5-0 during this period, compared to a 8-34 record for the remainder of the staff.
On June 2, with the worst staff in the majors (308 runs allowed, 8 saves in 20 opportunities), Washington replaced pitching coach Randy St. Claire with Steve McCatty. The move was followed at the All-Star break by the firing of manager Manny Acta and his replacement by bench coach Jim Riggleman. The Nationals had the worst record in the majors at the time, 26-61.
Awards and Honors[edit]
