History, Comments, Contributions[edit]
The 2007 Philadelphia Phillies absorbed the 10,000th loss in franchise history on July 15th, losing a 10-2 decision to the St. Louis Cardinals in which they surrendered six home runs. Adam Wainwright beat Adam Eaton and Albert Pujols homered twice. However, this lowlight was wiped out by the remarkable run the team made to win the National League East title. Trailing the New York Mets by seven games on September 12th, they managed to erase the lead and claim sole possession of first place with two games remaining in the season. They lost their penultimate game while the Mets ended their skid with a win over the Florida Marlins to bring the two teams into a tie with one game remaining. New York's game started first. By the time Philadelphia took the field against the Washington Nationals, New York was trailing 7-0 after an awful 1st inning performance by Tom Glavine. The Phillies and Jamie Moyer registered an easy win over the Nationals to clinch their first division title since 1993 and erase memories of their historic 1964 last-week collapse.
