1994 Italian Series

The 1994 Italian Series was won by Cariparma Parma. They beat defending champions C.F.C. Nettuno in the final to win their seventh Serie A1 scudetto.

Parma had tied for first in the regular season at 34-14 then edged Bologna, 4 games to 3, in the semifinals. Veteran RF Roberto Bianchi (.353/.480/.660o, 53 R, 51 RBI in 43 6 G), 2B Massimo Fochi (.359/.460/.615), IF Johnny Paredes (.366/.513/.472, 43 R, a league-best 37 SB) and LF Alessandro Bussi (.336/.445/.582, 41 RBI in 44 G) led the offense. Dave Pavlas (11-4, 1.68, 142 K in 133 2/3 IP) led the league in ERA while Paolo Ceccaroli was 5-2 with 3 saves and a 3.74 ERA.

Nettuno had also tied for first at 34-14, then beat the 3rd 34-14 team, Rimini, in 6 games in the semifinals. RF Steve Carter, a former major leaguer, dazzled at .431/.521/.684 with 64 runs and 54 RBI in 44 games while LF Marco Ubani hit .331/.428/.516 with 51 runs in 42 games. Paul McClellan, another former MLB player, had a 11-3, 2.72 record and Maurizio De Sanctis was 7-3 with a save and a 3.67 ERA.

In the Series, Nettuno took the opener, 8-2, on September 30. The next day, Parma won, 10-3. Game 3 was suspended during rain and finished on October 8 with a 11-6 Parma win. They took game 4 two days later, 4-3, then clinched it with a 10-9 win on October 15. Fochi hit .474/.500/.789 with two homers in the Series and C Luigi Carrozza (.400/.455/.750) scored 8 runs. Ceccaroli was 1-0 with a 1.59 ERA. For Nettuno, their top performers were SS Massimo Ciaramella (4 for 8, 3 RBI), 2B Carlo Lauri (6 for 14, 4 RBI), Carter (.267/.520/.333, 8 BB, 5 R) and McClellan (1-1, 1.96).
