1983 Serie A

From BR Bullpen

The 1983 Serie A was the 36th Serie A season. For the first time, a MLB veteran came to the league; Lenny Randle joined Nettuno and took advantage of the aluminum bats to top .500. He came within .008 of Giorgio Castelli's record for average in an Italian season. Dozens of major leaguers would follow over the next few decades. Randle was not enough to push Nettuno to the title, as Rimini won it behind home run king Giuseppe Carelli and fellow slugger Tommy Martinez and pitching aces Lou Colabello and Michele Romano. Interestingly, two of the Italian-Americans who led the league (Colabello and RBI leader Greg Zunino) had sons who later played in the majors.
