1950 Junior World Series

The 1950 Junior World Series was the 34th meeting between the champions of the American Association and International League. The Columbus Red Birds won the American Association playoffs, while the Baltimore Orioles won the International League's Governors' Cup for the first time in six seasons.

Columbus won the series in five games for their first JWS title since 1943. It was their sixth title, putting them two ahead of Baltimore, which would have caught up to them with a win here.

Cot Deal went the distance for Columbus in game one, tossing a five-hit, one-run gem against the O's. Karl Drews was just one hit worse for Baltimore in game two to even the series, his team scoring 8 runs off Columbus ace Harvey Haddix and a reliever. It was the last good news for Baltimore.

In game three, Columbus knocked out Baltimore starter Tommy Fine in the first, scoring 3 runs en route to a 8-5 victory. They took the next game 5-2 and the finale, 6-3, behind Deal.

SS Bill Costa hit .500 to lead Columbus, while C Clyde Kluttz paced Baltimore at .389.
