History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

The 1932 Hilldale Club was below the middle of the pack in the short-lived East-West League.

The star of the offense was clearly 3B Judy Johnson, who hit .356/.417/.414 for a 122 OPS+ and won the batting title. Aside from Johnson, their player-manager Hall-of-Famer, the team mustered little offense with a cumulative 64 OPS+. CF Chaney White was the #2 regular at .257/.359/.337 (86 OPS+), then 1B Eggie Dallard (.264/.350/.340, 85 OPS+). 2B Obie Lackey batted .250/.289/.380 (78 OPS+), LF Lou Dials .253/.327/.319 (73 OPS+), RF Crush Holloway .237/.310/.303 (64 OPS+), SS Jimmy Johnson .220/.316/.240 (50 OPS+) and C Joe Lewis .210/.247/.259 (35 OPS+).

The pitching was sharper with a 98 OPS+. Porter Charleston (5-3, 2.24, 188 ERA+) was excellent, Cliff Carter (3-2, 3.40, 124 ERA+) very sharp and Phil Cockrell (0-4, 4.15, 101 ERA+) did fine despite a poor record thanks to the weak offense. Less effective were Paul Carter (1-7, 6.33, 66 ERA+) and Cliney Allen (1-2, 6.84, 61 ERA+).
