History, Comments, Contributions[edit]

In 1931, Tom Wilson moved the Nashville Elite Giants to Cleveland, OH and renamed them the Cleveland Cubs. The Cubs became the 6th sub-.500 team in the Negro National League from the city, finishing last despite the best record yet at 25-28 for manager Joe Hewitt. The star was Satchel Paige, who went 6-3 before jumping to the Pittsburgh Crawfords. After the season, the club returned to Nashville, TN.
