  Traded a player to be named later to Des Moines (Western). Received Claude Thomas. The Washington Nationals sent optional assignment of Pat Flaherrty and other consideration (February, 1917) to Des Moines (Western) to complete the trade.

  Elmer Smith player rights sold to the Cleveland Indians for $4,000.

• July 7, 1917

  Charlie Jamieson selected by the Philadelphia Athletics off waivers.

• September 20, 1917

  Drafted Harry Thompson from Toronto (International) in the 1917 rule 5 draft.

  Purchased Frank Schulte from the Philadelphia Phillies.
