Biographical Information[edit]
Frank "Zeke" Wilson pitched five years in the majors. The Boston Beaneaters released the rookie in June of 1885, and the Cleveland Spiders picked him up. He went 3-1 for the Spiders, who finished second out of twelve teams in the National League, and the next season, in 1896, he was 17-9 for the same team, and they again finished second. In 1897, he was 16-11, although the Spiders didn't finish as high in the league.
While Zeke was with Cleveland the team had a strong pitching staff, with Cy Young, Bobby Wallace (in the days before he became an infielder), Nig Cuppy, and a bit later Jack Powell. He worked three games as a fill-in umpire, in 1896, 1897 and 1899.
After his major league days, Zeke had a couple of winning seasons with the Atlanta Crackers.
