Biographical information[edit]

Pitcher Zach Muckenhirn was drafted by the Baltimore Orioles out of the University of North Dakota in the 11th round of the 2016 amateur draft. Not only did that make him the highest draft pick in school history, but he was sure that his record would not be broken as it was the final year in which UND had a baseball team. When he reached the majors with the New York Mets in the second game of a double header against the Detroit Tigers on May 3, 2023, he became the first player from the University of North Dakota to play in the big leagues - and likely the only one ever.
