Biographical Information[edit]
Relief pitcher Yushi Aida played for the Yomiuri Giants for two years. He is the son of Teruo Aida and was a submarine hurler like his father.
Aida had a 11-13, 2.11 record in college. He helped Japan to a Silver Medal in the 2004 World University Championship. Yomiuri took him in the 7th round of the 2005 NPB draft. He was 3-2 with a 3.03 ERA in 34 games in 2007; he became the first son of a NPB hurler to appear in NPB as well and they became the first such duo to both win games in NPB. He had no decision with a 1.80 ERA in three games in 2008. He also pitched for the Leones del Escogido of the Dominican Winter League in 2008-2009, posting a 5.06 ERA in nine appearances.
With a fastball that peaked in the high 80s in college and mid-70s in the pros, he relied heavily on a sinker. Retiring at the end of 2009 (after a 1-0, 3.92 campaign in the minors), he became a minor league training coach.
