Biographical Information[edit]

Yuki Tanaka pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Tanaka was drafted by the Kintetsu Buffaloes in the 5th round in the 1997 NPB draft, and he went 5-3 with a 3.91 ERA in his first season. He slumped to 2-3 with a 6.29 ERA in 2000, and he spent the entire 2001 season in the minor league. Tanaka was selected as compensation by the Orix BlueWave for the loss of Shinichi Kato to free agency, and he improved to 7-1 with a 1.93 ERA in 2002. However, he suffered from a right shoulder injury, and he missed the next two seasons.

He returned in 2005, and he had a 5.60 ERA in 8 games. He was then moved to the bullpen, and he recorded a 3.71 ERA in 34 appearances in 2006. Tanaka went 4-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 2007, but he had a right shoulder injury again in 2008 and he missed the entire season again. He was then released, and the Yakult Swallows signed him. Tanaka went 5-6 with a 3.40 ERA in 2009, but he only pitched one game with the big club in 2010 and he retired. He later coached Teikyo University Kani High School from 2017 to 2021, and Tojaku High School named him their coach in 2022.

Overall, Tanaka was 28-22 with a 3.72 ERA, struck out 367 and pitched 462 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
