Biographical Information[edit]

Yuji Kubodera played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.

Kubodera was drafted by the Nankai Hawks in the second round of the 1976 NPB draft, but he spent his first season primarily in the NPB Farm Leagues, only playing 11 games with the big club. He played 104 games as an utility man in 1978, and his batting line was .204/.248/.311. He then hit .240/.273/.293 in 1979, and his batting line improved .292/.327/.429 to in 1980 while he played regularly in the outfield. He led the Pacific League with 29 doubles (tied with Yutaka Fukumoto), and he ranked 4th in triples (5, tied with Mitsuyasu Hirano). Kubodera then hit .247/.292/.377 in 1981, and he recorded a .264/.314/.357 batting line in 1982. When Mitsuru Fujiwara suddenly retired in 1983, he was turned into a third baseman and he hit .263/.302/.384 with a career-high 11 homers. Kubodera then hit .272/.300/.411 in 1984, but that was his last season. He passed away in 1985 due to congestive heart failure.

Overall, Kubodera hit .258/.297/.373 with 602 hits and 44 homers in 8 years in NPB.
