Biographical Information[edit]
Yuji Hata pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Hata represented Japan in the 2001 BFA U-18 Baseball Championship. He was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the first round of the 2001 NPB draft, and he pitched 4 games with a 3.14 ERA in his first season. His ERA was 6.75 in 7 games in 2003, then he recorded a 3.48 ERA in 6 appearances in 2004. Hata went 1-1 with a 5.08 ERA in 2005, and he improved to 5-3 with a 2.93 ERA in 2006. However, his ERA rose to 5.55 in 14 games in 2007, and he allowed 7 runs in 2 2/3 innings in 2008. Hata only pitched 9 games combined in the next three seasons, and he was released after the 2011 season. He then pitched for the Toyama GRN Thunderbirds from 2013 to 2016, and he was their pitching coach in 2017.
Overall, Hata was 9-9 with a 4.54 ERA, struck out 105 and pitched 196 1/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
