Biographical Information[edit]

Yozo Ishikawa pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 4 years.

Ishikawa completed a no-hitter against Tokyo University in 1959. He was signed by the Toei Flyers in 1962, and he only pitched 2 games in his rookie year. Ishikawa pitched a lot both as a reliever and as a starter in 1963, and he was 16-13 with a 2.54 ERA in 63 appearances (23 starts, including 11 complete games). He ranked 8th in the Pacific League in wins (12 behind Kazuhisa Inao), 6th in ERA (between Inao and Joe Stanka), 8th in strikeouts (between Tadashi Sugiura and Toshiaki Tokuhisa) and 3rd in appearances (between Tokuhisa and Yukihiro Kubo). Ishikawa was also selected into the 1963 NPB All-Star Game, and he allowed an unearned run in 1 2/3 innings in Game 1. He was 5-8 with a 2.62 ERA in 1964, then he slumped to 3-3 with a 3.31 ERA in 1965. Ishikawa never pitched a single game with the big club after the 1965 season, and he announced his retirement in 1968.

Overall, Ishikawa was 24-24 with a 2.65 ERA, struck out 233 and pitched 492 innings in 4 years in NPB.
