Biographical Information[edit]

Yozaburo Chihara played in Nippon Pro Baseball for 9 years.

Chihara was signed by the Chunichi Dragons in 1964 as a pitcher, and he pitched 9 games with a 6.30 ERA in his rookie year. He hit .222/.282/.222 as a first baseman in 1965, then he returned to the mound and recorded a 3.00 ERA in 8 games in 1966 while hitting .182/.217/.273. He was turned into an outfielder in 1967, and he hit .280/.335/.435. Chihara improved to .268/.312/.407 with 14 homers in 1968, and he led the Central League in sacrifice flies with 7. He was also selected into the 1968 NPB All-Star Game, but he was 0-for-2. Chihara slumped to .212/.250/.333 in 1969, and his batting line even fell to .125/.211/.141 in 1970. He only had 48 at-bats combined in the next two seasons, and he announced his retirement in 1972.

Overall, Chihara hit .247/.294/.368 with 272 hits and 25 homers in 9 seasons in the NPB.
