Biographical Information[edit]
Yota Kosugi pitched in Nippon Pro Baseball for 8 years.
Kosugi was drafted by the Yokohama BayStars in the 5th round of the 2008 NPB draft, and he only pitched one game with the big club in 2009. His ERA was 9.86 in 8 games in 2010, and he got 5 appearances with a 4.00 ERA in 2011. Kosugi's ERA was 5.01 in 17 games in 2012, and he was 1-2 with a 4.76 ERA in 2013. He missed most of the 2014 season due to shoulder injury, and he was 3-3 with a 4.33 ERA in 2015. Kosugi improved to a 3.71 ERA in 20 games in 2016, but he stayed in the minors for the entire 2017 season and he announced his retirement. He later became the pitching coach for Shikoku Gakuin University in 2021, and he was the minor league pitching coach for the BayStars from 2022 to 2023. He became their big club pitching coach in 2024.
Overall, Kosugi was 6-9 with a 5.04 ERA, struck out 117 and pitched 160 2/3 innings in 8 seasons in NPB.
