Yosvani Madera Hernández

Yosvani Madera was a member of the Cuban national team for two years. He was the brother of Abel Madera and Lázaro Madera, his teammates on Pinar del Río.

Yosvani led the western league in Cuba in 1991-1992 with 8 times hit by pitch.

In the 1997 World Port Tournament, Madera was 5 for 12 with a walk and a double for Cuba. He debuted for the national team in a major event in the 1997 Intercontinental Cup, the first major tourney Cuba would lose in 15 years. He was 0 for 1 in the event, backing up Juan Manrique at catcher; his brother Abel was on Cuba's pitching staff in the event.

Yosvani was Cuba's worst-hitting position player (2 for 16) in the 1998 Haarlem Baseball Week. He was 0 for 2 in the 1998 Central American and Caribbean Games. In the 1998 Baseball World Cup, Madera was 4 for 12 as Manrique's backup and threw out 3 of 6 attempted base-stealers. He did not play in the Gold Medal game, which Cuba won.

Madera played 14 seasons overall in Cuba, retiring after 2003-2004. He had hit .280/.363/.419 overall and had thrown 268 runners in 526 attempts for a 49% opponent success rate. He retired 17th all-time in runners caught stealing while only being 30th in steals allowed.
