Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshitaka Muto pitched for JR Hokkaido in the industrial leagues after college, and he was drafted by the Rakuten Golden Eagles in the first round of the 2011 NPB draft after they lost the lottery for the rights to Takahiro Fujioka; the scout was Toshihiro Takanashi. He pitched 9 games with a 5.14 ERA in 2012, and he had a 6.75 ERA in 14 appearances in 2014 after staying in the NPB Farm Leagues for a season. Muto joined the bullpen of the big club in 2015, and he notched 8 holds with a 4.39 ERA in 60 games. He was 9th in appearances in the Pacific League, between Keisuke Tanimoto and Tatsuya Sato. However, Muto only pitched 2 games in 2016 due to a right elbow injury, and he announced his retirement in 2017.
Overall, Muto was 4-4 with a 4.96 ERA, struck out 63 and pitched 105 1/3 innings in 4 seasons in the NPB.
