Biographical Information[edit]
Yoshio Tanaka was the first-round draft pick of the Lotte Orions in the 1975 NPB draft from the Mitsubishi Heavy Industries Mihara industrial league team. He was 0-2 with a save and a 5.59 ERA for Lotte in '76 and 2-6, 4.40 with three saves in 1977. In '78, he moved to the Taiyo Whales and had no decisions and a 4.24 ERA (but an RA double that). In 1979, the 23-year-old hurler went 5-6 with one save and a 4.21 ERA in a career-high 45 games and 141 2/3 innings pitched. He led the Central League with 80 walks that year. The next year, his pitching line read 5-10, 4.78 and he followed with a 6.00 ERA in 12 outings in 1981 to wrap up his career at 12-24, 5 Sv, 4.54 in 139 games pitched.
