Biographical Information[edit]

Yoshihiro Kodama pitched for 6 seasons in Nippon Pro Baseball.

Kodama was drafted by the Lotte Orions in the 15th round of the 1965 NPB draft, but he refused to sign. He then signed with the Hankyu Braves in 1971, and he was 6-3 with a 4.53 ERA in his first season. He improved to 10-4 with a 2.66 ERA in 1972, and he worked two innings in the 1972 Nippon Series Game 1; he allowed a RBI double to Yukinobu Kuroe. Kodama relieved Yoshinori Toda in the 8th inning of Game 2, but he surrendered a game-winning, 2-run double to Tsuneo Horiuchi and got the loss to Horiuchi. He allowed 3 runs in 2 innings in Game 5, and the Yomiuri Giants beat the Braves. He was 4-4 with a 3.63 ERA in 1973, and his ERA rose to 6.60 in 16 games in 1974. The Braves then traded him with Yukinobu Miyamoto and Hiroki Watanabe to the Hiroshima Carp for Shizuo Shiraishi and Yataro Oishi, and Kodama had a 7.20 ERA in 22 games in 1975. He was traded again to the Taiheiyo Club Lions for cash, but he allowed 8 runs in 6 innings in 1976 then he announced his retirement.

Overall, Kodama was 22-13 with a 4.23 ERA, struck out 111 and pitched 283 1/3 innings in 6 seasons in the NPB.
