Biographical Information

Yong-taik Park won a batting title in 2009.

Park helped South Korea win a Silver Medal at the 2001 Asian Championship and joined Takashi Kita and Yuan-Chia Chen on the All-Star outfield. He turned pro in 2002 with the LG Twins, hitting .288/.358/.467 and stealing 20 bases in 25 tries. He fell to .257/.318/.391 in 2003 but swiped 42 bases in 54 attempts. He rebounded to bat .300/.352/.471 in 2004. In '05 ,he hit .280/.344/.432 and led the Korea Baseball Organization in steals (43 in 50 tries) and runs (90, tied with Jay Davis).

In the 2006 World Baseball Classic, he was 1 for 4 with a triple, run and a RBI for South Korea. In the 2006 KBO season, he hit .294/.348/.462 and swiped 25 bags while only being gunned down three times. In 2007, he hit .278/.333/.432 for the Twins and was 20-for-22 in steal attempts.

Park's batting line in 2008 fell to a new low at .257/.324/.323 and he stole "only" 16 bases (in 22 tries). He more than recovered in 2009, batting .372/.417/.582 with 21 steals in 25 tries. He won the batting title by .001 over Sung-heon Hong after sitting out the final day of the season in a close race. He hit 18 home runs and 31 doubles (tied for third). His 168 hits were second to Hyun-soo Kim and he scored 91 runs, 5th in the circuit. He finished 5th in slugging and 8th in OBP as a stellar leadoff threat, but his club still only placed 7th of 8 entries in the KBO. He won a Gold Glove, joining Hyun-soo Kim and Taek-keun Lee.
