Biographical Information[edit]
Yohanny Valera had a brief cup of coffee as a September call-up with the Montreal Expos in 2000. After spending the season in AA with the Harrisburg Senators and AAA with the Ottawa Lynx, and hitting .218/.295/.3014 in 113 games, he went 0 for 10 in 7 games for the Expos. He had been originally signed by the New York Mets and an amateur free agent in 1993 and eventually reached AAA with them before being signed as a free agent with Montreal. He then continued to play in the minors until 2009, including five seasons in the independent leagues.
He hit .237/.256/.474 with 11 RBI as the Dominican catcher in the 2001 Baseball World Cup. He tied Chin-Feng Chen for the most RBI in the round-robin and finished second in the tourney to Chen.
