Biographical Information[edit]

Yoel Monzón pitched in Cuba and the US.

Monzón was 15-17 with a 5.32 ERA in three seasons for Matanzas in the Cuban Serie Nacional. In 257 IP, he hallowed 290 hits and 159 walks while fanning 152. He pitched 61 games (37 starts). He led the league with 9 intentional walks issued in 1997-1998.

He then defected and signed with the Colorado Rockies. He was 3-4 with a save and a 4.74 ERA for the 1999 Portland Rockies. With the 2000 Asheville Tourists, he was 4-1 with two saves and a 3.23 ERA in 39 games, fanning 83 in 64 IP. His career then ended with injury.

Monzón became a pitching coach with the AZL Mariners in 2016-2019 and ACL Mariners in 2021. He moved to the New York Mets organization as pitching coach of the FCL Mets in 2022. He moved yet again to the San Diego Padres' chain as pitching coach of the ACL Padres in 2023.
