Biographical Information[edit]

Yi-Chen Chen pitched in the CPBL for 3 years.

Chen was selected by the Uni-President Lions in the second round of the 2008 CPBL Draft, and he pitched well in his rookie year in the minor league. He was 3-2 with a 2.33 ERA, and he won the ERA title. Thus, Chen won a spot with the big club in 2010, and he was 2-4 with a 4.50 ERA. He had a 3-3 record with a 4.63 ERA in 2011, and the Lions named him the starter of the 2011 Taiwan Series Game 4. Chen allowed 2 runs in 3 2/3 innings, and he ended up with a no-decision. The Lions beat the Lamigo Monkeys in 5 games, and Chen won his only Taiwan Series title. He was 5-2 with a 4.11 ERA in 2012, but he stayed in the minor league for the entire 2013 season due to injuries. The Lions released him because he was caught drunk driving after the 2013 season, and his professional career ended.

Overall, Chen was 10-9 with a 4.42 ERA, struck out 54 and pitched 158 2/3 innings in 3 seasons in the CPBL. His repertoire included a fastball (peak 93.8 mph), knuckle curve, slider and sinker.
