Biographical Information[edit]

Yeong-hwa Cha played in the Korea Baseball Organization for 8 years. His son Jeong-gu Cha is a KBO umpire.

Cha joined the Haitai Tigers when the KBO was founded in 1982, and he hit .259/.337/.309 in 76 games in his first season. He also won the first KBO Gold Glove as a second baseman. He played 86 games with a .266/.308/.323 batting line in 1983, then he slumped to .204/.274/.235 in 1984. Cha struggled again in 1985 as he had a .240/.276/.269 batting line in 1985], then his batting line fell to .199/.242/.222 in 1986. He batted .200/.263/.257 in 1987, then he played 54 games with a .214/.291/.214 batting line in 1988. Cha was 2-for-9 in 1989, then he announced his retirement. He was the fielding coach for the Tigers from 1990 to 1999, and he coached in the KIA Tigers system from 2006 to 2013.

Overall, Cha hit .235/.291/.273 with 290 hits and 2 homers in 8 seasons in the KBO.
