Biographical Information[edit]

Yats Wuestling played in the major leagues in 1929 and 1930.

With the Detroit Tigers in 1929, Yats got into 54 games. The starting shortstop was Heinie Schuble, but Schuble had a fielding average of .886 that year at age 22 and disappeared from the majors after that year till 1932. Yats, who had a fielding average of .943, stuck with the team in 1930 but was traded in May to the New York Yankees. Mark Koenig, acquired in the trade from the Yankees, became the regular Detroit shortstop. Bill Akers, who had also fought for playing time at shortstop for the Tigers in 1929, remained in 1930 as the backup shortstop in 1930 and also played some in 1931. But it was Billy Rogell, who first played for the Tigers in 1930, who became the long-time regular shortstop for the Tigers from 1932-38.

While with the Yankees in 1930 on a day in August, regular shortstop Lyn Lary was hurt and Wuestling was sick, so Billy Werber was able to make his debut. Werber went on to play only 7 games for the Yankees but became a regular third baseman with several other major league teams.
