Biographical Information[edit]
Infielder Yasuhiro Iwaoka played in Nippon Pro Baseball and for the Japanese national team.
Nakano played for Japan when they won the 1955 Asian Championship, their first Asian Championship title. [1] He was signed by the Taiyo Whales in 1956. Iwaoka soon became the Whales' everyday shortstop in his rookie year and hit .209/.247/.267. He still batted .206/.247/.274 and played 108 games in 1957, but he suffered a injury and missed most of the 1958 season. Iwaoka never recovered from the injury, and he only played 141 more games over the next four years. He announced his retirement after recording a 0-for-12 in 1962[2]
Overall, Iwaoka had hit .213/.258/.283 with 9 home runs in 7 seasons in NPB.
