Wolfgang Schmid
Wolfgang Schmid was a member of the first three German national teams. In the 1954 European Championship, he allowed 11 hits, 6 walks and 10 runs (4 earned) in 7 2/3 IP, striking out six and took one loss. A team was Walter Schmid; it is unclear if Wolfgang was related. He was a starting outfielder three games (going 0 for 11 with two walks and a run) and pitched against Belgium (4 2/3 IP, 3 H, 4 R, 4 ER, 3 BB, 6 K) in a loss. Finally, in the 1956 European Championship, he was 0 for 7 with 4 whiffs and pitched two games. He allowed only 7 hits and 4 walks in 16 innings, with 3 runs (2 earned) while K'ing 9. He and Helmut Buchner were the only pitchers used by Germany.
Through 2010, his 3.18 ERA was 8th in German team annals (between Frank Jäger and Buchner),
