Team Biography[edit]
Originally formed in 2004, as the Daytona Beach Barracudas, the Winter Springs Barracudas are one of the founding members of the Florida Collegiate Summer League. Following the 2005 season the Barracudas were forced to pull up roots due to financial constraints and limited local funding. The team moved from to Winter Park, FL, where they became the Winter Pines Warthogs for the 2005 and 2006 seasons. The team again fell on hard times and moved from Winter Park, FL to Winter Springs, FL following the 2006 season, and adopted the Winter Springs Barracudas moniker to begin the 2007 season. The Barracudas make their home at the baseball field on the campus of Winter Springs High School.
The Winter Spings Barracudas are a Major League Baseball-sanctioned Summer Collegiate Baseball team which is designed and dedicated to provide the nation's collegiate players the opportunity to compete at a higher level and prepare for entering the MLB Draft. The Barracudas operate in the model of an Inependent Minor League team: recruiting players, playing nightly in stadiums before fans, using wood bats and minor league specification equipment, and experiencing road trips between games. Like all other summer collegiate players, the Winter Springs Barracudas are unpaid in order to maintain their NCAA eligibility, and live with host families in the same manner as Single A and Independent League players.
