Biographical Information[edit]

Bill Wallace was signed by the Oakland Athletics as an undrafted free agent August 21, 1988. On March 4, 1989 he reported to the Athletics' minor league complex to join the AZL A's. Before Wallace made his professional debut with them on June 4th, he played 32 games as a middle infielder in the extended spring season for the Athletics organization. In the Arizona League, his first professional hit was a triple against the AZL Brewers. Wallace played 8 games at second base, 3 at shortstop, 2 at third base, and 14 as an outfielder, also pitching one scoreless inning. He batted .203 with 9 runs and 8 RBIs. Wallace was released that November. During his tenure with the Oakland Athletics organization he played a total of 59 games as a professional (counting extended spring training).

Wallace went on to sign two other professional baseball contracts with the California Angels in 1990 and the Philadelphia Phillies in 1991. Wallace chose not to continue his pursuit to the Major Leagues due to a knee injury and announced his retirement from professional baseball in 1992. Born in northern Virginia, after playing at Fauquier High School, Wallace played two years for Frederick Community College as a shortstop, earning a spot on the 1986 Maryland Junior College All-Star team and 1987 All-Maryland Region 20 team. Before signing with the Oakland Athletics organization, Wallace signed a National Letter of Intent for a full scholarship with the University of South Carolina Upstate. At 5' 7", 170 lb., Wallace achieved what he did through speed and hustle. His 60-yard dash times of 6.5 seconds, 90 m.p.h. arm speed from shortstop to first base and relentless hustle where all contributing factors which led to his professional career. He now resides in Frederick, MD with his wife and son where he continues to give back his love of the game to the local baseball community.
