Biographical Information[edit]
William Edward "Jiggs" Parson was the second major leaguer born in South Dakota. He was born in a small town in the far southeastern corner of the state. He was at Bucknell University at the same time as Henry Mathewson, and played some minor league ball while he was in college. After several successful years in the low minors, he came to the majors in the early part of 1910 with the Boston Doves, spending most of the season in the minors again, going 12-6 with the Lowell Tigers. After another stint in the bigs with Boston in 1911, he was again in the minors during 1911-1916. He won at least 92 games in the minors (records are not complete).
