Biographical Information[edit]

William Hyndman had his brief major league playing record wrongly attributed to another professional player of the same name.

A player named "Hyndman" pitched one game for the Philadelphia Athletics in 1886, suffering a loss and being moved to the outfield after two inefficient innings. This man was listed for years in records as "James Harvey Hyndman", a minor league player of the time originally from Canada, but in fact, it was a different Hyndman who played for the Athletics. William S. Hyndman was from Pennsylvania and had pitched for a team in Wilkes-Barre, PA before joining the A's, a fact noted by contemporary newspapers. He continued to live in the state after his brief career, passing away in 1920 in Philadelphia, PA.
