Biographical information[edit]
William Adams was a minor league baseball player and manager who is perhaps most notable for leading the Thibodaux Giants of the Evangeline League to a league championship in 1953 and the New Iberia Pelicans of the Evangeline League to a league championship in 1954. The Giants' championship was the only one the team won in its eight year history, and the Pelicans' was its only league championship in its five year history.
Adams had a lengthy minor league career, which would have been longer if not for service in World War II. He began his career in 1941 and missed 1943 to 1945 due to military service. He then played from 1946 to 1954. Overall, he hit .279 with 1,285 hits in his 11 year minor league career.
He also pitched from 1952 to 1954, going 6-6 with a 4.30 ERA in 37 games.
From 1951 to 1953, Adams served as the player-manager of the Thibodaux Giants. He last managed in 1954 - leading the Pelicans to a league championship.
