Biographical Information[edit]
Will Wynne was the first major leaguer out of Wake Forest University. He appeared in one game for the Washington Senators in 1894, pitching 8 innings.
Wynne had been at Wake Forest from 1891-1894 and also pitched for Charleston in 1894. Sporting Life of September 1, 1894 carried a notice of his signing by Washington manager Gus Schmelz, saying that Wynne was from Raleigh, NC.
He is not to be confused with another player, William Wynne [1], also born in North Carolina 14 years after Bill Wynne. This William Wynne often was called "Billy". In addition, a player named Billy Wynne, similarly from North Carolina, appeared in the majors between 1967-1971.
