Biographical Information[edit]

Will Sherriff has pitched for the Australian national team.

In the 2019 U-18 Baseball World Cup, he was 0-1 with a 4.05 ERA. He led Australia in IP (13 1/3) but took the loss in the Bronze Medal Game against South Korea. [1] He pitched two shutout innings for the Perth Heat in the 2019-2020 Australian Baseball League. He gave up seven runs (four earned) in ten innings in 2020-2021. After the 2021-2022 ABL was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic, he had a 3.46 ERA in nine outings for Perth in 2022-2023.

The youngest member of Australia's roster for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. He had to face the two toughest offenses in the tournament, based off final OPS. In his debut, he relieved Steven Kent with two on and none away, trying to preserve a 8-4 lead over South Korea. He walked Jung-hoo Lee and Byung-ho Park to let in one run then Hyun-soo Kim grounded out. He hit Kun-woo Park to reload the bases then Ji-hwan Oh grounded in another to close it to 8-7. Sam Holland entered and escaped the jam. Australia would hold on to win, enabling them to advance to the second round for the first time in a World Baseball Classic. Sherriff then started against the mighty Samurai Japan team that swept their way through the tournament. He couldn't contain them better than anyone else, walking Lars Nootbaar and allowing a Kensuke Kondoh single. Shohei Ohtani cracked a three-run homer. He recovered to retire Munetaka Murakami. After plunking Masataka Yoshida, he whiffed Kazuma Okamoto and turned the ball over to Luke Wilkins. He took the loss against Yoshinobu Yamamoto. Given his tough opposition, the fact that he had Australia's highest ERA at 20.25 is no surprise; Wilkins was next at 15.00. [2]
